The winter maintenance team at Lincolnshire County Council has tackled one of the strangest winter seasons on record. Thanks, in the main, to its deployment of Schmidt Stratos III spreaders fitted with route guidance and automated salting system, it’s nonetheless been one with maximum efficiency, improved safety and lower salt usage.

Marc Tissot van Patot, Functional Coordinator at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands, is responsible for information management at the airport. Recently, we’ve had the chance to talk with Marc about the newest IntelliOPS version and how Amsterdam Schiphol Airport uses the platform. In a nutshell, it helps with planning and monitoring, documenting and reporting and saving resources.

Since Aebi Schmidt introduced its driver assistance system for airport machines around a year ago, it has been tried in practice at multiple locations. These field operations provided valuable insights into the acceptance of such systems among drivers and operational staff. Insights which make a valuable contribution to the continuous improvement of the system. In a nutshell, partially autonomous systems are viable and offer great assistance, but they still rely on people.

Aebi Schmidt invited over 200 airport professionals from 38 countries to an experience day on Tuesday, 8 October. The focus was on presentations and discussions on the topics of «autonomous driving» and how operation processes can be made more efficient with the help of Data Management Solutions. A live survey among the participating experts also yielded surprising results.

It’s all systems go as US airports prepare for the coming winter. Our colleagues in the US took part in two key events on the topic in June 2018.

THE AUTONOMOUS DRIVING OPTION OF THE AEBI TERRATRAC SETS NEW STANDARDS 2016 marks not only the 40th anniversary of the Aebi Terratrac but also an innovation in the class of double-axle implement carriers. At the GaLaBau held in Nuremberg from 14 to 17 September, Aebi will be presenting the Terratrac with the “autonomous driving” option, setting new standards in terms of flexibility, economic efficiency and safety.

Berlin Airport was the first major airport to test whether and how our autonomous technology can be integrated into their specific operational concept. During the winter months, vehicles, equipment and software have been tested intensively and with great commitment. Conclusion: The future also works in Berlin!

Autonomous operations at the airport not only save money. While autonomous systems increase efficiency, safety, occupational health and flexibility, they also lead to a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions. Our solution is not off-the-shelf, it can be tailored to the specific conditions at the individual airport. And because it allows to integrate not only our own vehicles and machines but also those of other brands, the investment risk is low. But the best thing is that the systems have been intensively tested and are already available today.
