London Luton Airport (LLA) has added a self-propelled snow-cutter blower and a highly versatile implement carrier to its fleet. Being well prepared and ready for every eventuality, was the missing piece to the puzzle which is now completed to ensure effective and efficient summer and winter maintenance on the airport. Here’s more about the rationale.

The small town of Running Springs sits in the California San Bernardino mountains. With a population of just over 5,000, the community is known as the gateway to larger mountain communities or Big Bear, Lake Arrowhead, and Arrowbear, with service-related businesses catering to the passing through tourists.

If the layout of an airport makes simple and unproductive moving of the equipment take up far too much valuable time, what can you do? For the international airport in Denver, Colorado, MB's engineering team developed a solution specifically tailored to the airport to overcome the challenge without having to completely reinvent the wheel.

The Tyrolean state government uses spreaders in both summer and winter. Meanwhile, Estonian service provider EKT Teed OÜ relies on a carrier vehicle with a interchangeable system that can be used all year round. Will soon all of our machines be multipurpose and usable all year round? We spoke to Henning Schröder, Head Group Technology, and Gerhard Neudorfer, Head Sales Europe.

London Luton Airport (LLA) has been able to cut its optimum runway clearance and de-icing time to less than 12 minutes thanks to an upgraded winter maintenance fleet. The super-quick time compares to one hour and 20 minutes in 2011, a time saving of over an hour, because of new equipment and refined methods for runway clearance and de-icing.

Berlin Airport was the first major airport to test whether and how our autonomous technology can be integrated into their specific operational concept. During the winter months, vehicles, equipment and software have been tested intensively and with great commitment. Conclusion: The future also works in Berlin!

The state of Tyrol is responsible for a total of 2,236 km of road network, with the state roads lying at 470 to over 2,000 metres above sea level. The state authorities have been utilising salt and brine for their winter services since 2017. To do this, they use a Schmidt Stratos Combi Soliq Flex, a combined machine that spreads or sprays with abrasive agents, dry salt or wet salt containing the required proportion of brine. They have recently started using ‘the spreader’ in summer as well.

Maintaining 1.000.000 m² in the city of Tartu, EKT Teed OÜ decided to add new equipment to its fleet last year. Looking back, the contractor is sure to have made the right choice in order to maintain the area 24/7, 365 days a year. And, it was not only the Street King’s features that impressed, but also the possibility of buying single source, service included.

Performing thorough maintenance work is essential in order to ensure operational readiness at all times. It might sound perfectly reasonable and simple, but doing this is becoming increasingly taxing. The more complex the fleet and the more modern the technology, the higher the demands on the staff. And what should you do when maintenance work is pending, but staff are busy with other tasks?

After a break of several years due to Corona, finally Aebi Schmidt Austria again invited to the Sweeping and Municipal Day at the Austrian headquarters in Inzing. Representatives of more than thirty municipalities and service providers accepted the invitation and were able to see for themselves the advantages of the machines and equipment in practical use. The Flexigo, listed with the BBG, was of particular interest - but not only!

At the Demo Days, Aebi Schmidt presented the latest innovations, developments and solutions in the area of airport, sweeping, municipal technology, winter maintenance and more - online and live during two days. As we have previously reported, we are currently working with the town of Burgdorf, Switzerland, to test the suitability of our eVT 450 prototypes for everyday use. Our claim for the vehicles when they eventually enter series production is that no compromises need to be made in their use or when it comes to attachments and mounted equipment on the electric model. Dublin Airport has further expanded its winter maintenance fleet to be operationally ready to tackle the severest winter conditions as it expands airport operations with the forthcoming addition of its new North Runway.

Aebi Schmidt's product range has the ability to be customised to meet individual customer demands – as one major Belgian customer discovered thanks to 29 specially adapted Schmidt CSP ‘combi’ sprayers. The CSP range of compact sprayers is perfect for tackling snow and ice efficiently in an environmentally friendly manner using liquid de-icing agents and is particularly effective in inner-city areas, even at low speeds.

The fleet run by the Kriens public works office includes three generations of transporters from the Aebi VT 450 series. Most recently, it added a new Aebi VT 450 Vario Euro 6C to its fleet in 2018. The trio of transporters is put to use year-round – in applications involving everything from winter maintenance to green space maintenance.

INCHEON AIRPORT IN SOUTH KOREA IS GEARING UP FOR THE 2018 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES The “Land of the Morning Calm” is readying itself for the Games, which will be held from 9 to 25 February 2018. Given that passenger traffic spikes during events of this magnitude in particular, it’s an absolute must for any airport of good standing to have snow-free and ice-free runways and taxiways. To ensure absolute safety and punctuality at all times, IIAC (Incheon International Airport Corporation) is adding ten Schmidt TJS 630 jet sweepers to their winter service fleet.

New Vehicle for the Winter Service The Burglengenfeld municipal utility has ended its cooperation with a service provider - and increased its own vehicle fleet.

The salt depots of the Oldesloer Autobahnmeisterei are full, the gritting vehicles are ready and the employees are on call.

In the assembly workshop in Tiefenhäusern, not far from our plant in St. Blasien, Germany, our specialists are working with high pressure and precision on two high-performance snow blowers for the Norwegian state railway company Bane NOR. Each of these machines weighs over 80 tonnes and generates over 2,000 horsepower. We recently had the honour of welcoming the Norwegian project team and accompanied them with our camera.

Like Meyer, its dealer partner, JTI, Inc., celebrates a long history. John's Trailer Company was the precursor to the present JTI, Inc. The company was founded in 1935, initially building and selling hay wagons, trailers, hitches and axles. JTI is now in its fourth generation of family ownership, and continues to be a trusted equipment dealer, selling Meyer snowplows and salt spreaders for the past two decades.

Last year, Dublin Airport transitioned away from diesel and began using HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) to reduce its carbon footprint and help meet its sustainability targets. Read more on how Schmidt’s summer and winter maintenance fleet can contribute to such plans.

For those who own Jeep Wranglers, the iconic and popular four-wheel-drive off-road SUVs, they’re familiar with rubber ducks. And for those who don’t…what’s up with the ducks?

In winter road maintenance, it is often necessary to treat particularly critical areas, such as bridges or steep and sloping stretches, with specially deployed spray vehicles or with stationary de-icing agent spraying systems. This approach incurs additional costs because of the special vehicles, routes or equipment. In Vienna, however, it has been shown that there is another way. We wanted to know how and spoke to engineer Dr. Peter Nutz, Head of Planning and Winter Maintenance at Municipal Department 48.

At a recent practical day in St. Blasien, contractors and users were given exclusive insights into the technology and production of our Schmidt Supra 4002/5002 autonomous driving snow clearing machine. In addition to visiting the production line and driving and operating the machine on the test site, the snow clearing professionals also used the event to exchange ideas among themselves.

Within a short time, we were celebrating special anniversaries on all different Aebi production lines. In a loose series, we have shown where the vehicles have gone to and how they are used. To conclude the series, we follow the 20,000th transporter, an Aebi TP 470 Vario, to France.

From the top of the Col du Pillon pass, in the west of Switzerland at 1546 meters above sea level, it takes about 15 minutes by aerial tramway to reach the top station of the glacier ski area Glacier 3000. Four snow blowers and two trucks equipped with plows ensure that the unique glacier ski area is always accessible, even for early risers. On arrival, you are usually rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Eiger, Jungfrau and Matterhorn. To ensure that access to the aerial tramway is possible at all times, heavy equipment is also needed at this altitude - for example the new Supra 4002 from Jean-Luc Busset.

The fact that complex machines are nevertheless easy to operate was an important argument that led to the purchase of the CJS fleet at Zurich Airport. Thanks to this, the drivers can concentrate on their work, namely clearing snow, slush and ice, even with a high pulse at two o'clock in the night.

Two of the largest international airports in Canada – Calgary and Montreal – rely on MB and Schmidt snow clearing equipment. Before putting their trust in these machines, operations directors at both airports thoroughly evaluated their needs and performed in-depth testing to determine if our multi-tasking snow removal equipment could tackle their challenging winter weather events. We caught up with the operators to understand whether the units proved themselves in practice and what they would like to see in the future.

On the Stuttgart apron last Wednesday, the Aebi Schmidt Group and Stuttgart Airport GmbH presented what the future of winter maintenance with autonomously operating vehicles and equipment could look like. The system tested at Stuttgart Airport is fully integrated for the first time.

It’s not snowing yet, but if summer continues like this, it probably will be soon. That’s why it’s better to start getting ready for the winter season. Clearing very wide, snow-covered roads is a particular challenge for the snow ploughing service every year. Aebi Schmidt has developed a new snow plough that can clear motorways with just one plough with a working width of over six metres – an advantage in many respects.

The Lower Austrian state government has been using reliable Schmidt winter maintenance equipment for decades. The oldest product still in use is a 1958 lifting and pressing device for snow ploughs. They also use numerous ploughs, snow cutter blowers and salt spreaders for winter maintenance. Recently, three new Stratos 50 Combi Flex spreaders were added to the fleet to help Andreas Böhmer, Deputy Head of Machines and Vehicles, and his team to combat the icy winter roads.
