Impressive time saving on the runways at London Luton Airport
London Luton Airport (LLA) has been able to cut its optimum runway clearance and de-icing time to less than 12 minutes thanks to an upgraded winter maintenance fleet. The super-quick time compares to one hour and 20 minutes in 2011, a time saving of over an hour, because of new equipment and refined methods for runway clearance and de-icing.
Schmidt CJS fleet now also at Zurich Airport
The fact that complex machines are nevertheless easy to operate was an important argument that led to the purchase of the CJS fleet at Zurich Airport. Thanks to this, the drivers can concentrate on their work, namely clearing snow, slush and ice, even with a high pulse at two o'clock in the night.
Nothing is more annoying than unexpected downtime. Here’s what you can do about it.
Performing thorough maintenance work is essential in order to ensure operational readiness at all times. It might sound perfectly reasonable and simple, but doing this is becoming increasingly taxing. The more complex the fleet and the more modern the technology, the higher the demands on the staff. And what should you do when maintenance work is pending, but staff are busy with other tasks?
Did you miss the Demo Days? No problem.
At the Demo Days, Aebi Schmidt presented the latest innovations, developments and solutions in the area of airport, sweeping, municipal technology, winter maintenance and more - online and live during two days. Did you miss the presentations? No problem, you can review the recordings of the presentations whenever convenient for you.
Giving an airport’s tarmac the all-clear: our driver assistance system proves its worth in practice
Since Aebi Schmidt introduced its driver assistance system for airport machines around a year ago, it has been tried in practice at multiple locations. These field operations provided valuable insights into the acceptance of such systems among drivers and operational staff. Insights which make a valuable contribution to the continuous improvement of the system. In a nutshell, partially autonomous systems are viable and offer great assistance, but they still rely on people.
The Street King 660 takes North America
In autumn 2020, the Aebi Schmidt Group acquired the Canadian company Equipements Lourds Papineau Inc. (ELP) – an acquisition continuing the consistent implementation of the group’s growth strategy, as ELP is a leading manufacturer of winter operation equipment in Quebec. Now – somewhat later than planned, due to the coronavirus – the sales and service staff of Aebi Schmidt Canada Inc. and ELP are getting to know one another in person during training for the introduction of the Street King 660 to Canada.

INCHEON AIRPORT IN SOUTH KOREA IS GEARING UP FOR THE 2018 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES The “Land of the Morning Calm” is readying itself for the Games, which will be held from 9 to 25 February 2018. Given that passenger traffic spikes during events of this magnitude in particular, it’s an absolute must for any airport of good standing to have snow-free and ice-free runways and taxiways. To ensure absolute safety and punctuality at all times, IIAC (Incheon International Airport Corporation) is adding ten Schmidt TJS 630 jet sweepers to their winter service fleet.
Schmidt CJS-DI – Refined with your Ideas!
Interview with Development and Product Management Allow us to introduce the multifunctional jet sweeper which can also be used for de-icing. The concept from Schmidt sets new standards. The Schmidt CJS-DI is a compact jet sweeper with an additional mounted spreader/sprayer which can be customised to reflect your needs.
Stansted cleans up with Schmidt and Scania
London Stansted Airport, a member of the Manchester Airport Group, has added a new Schmidt combination sweeper to its airside sweeping and scrubbing fleet. Based on a 250 HP Scania chassis and a Schmidt ASC 990 high speed sweeping and scrubbing vehicle, the truck now joins twelve other Schmidt snow removal machines – six jet sweeper tractor units, three runway de-icers, two snow clearing units, one multifunctional sweeper and scrubbing machine – currently in service at London Stansted.
55 Airports. 55 Requirements. 1 Model. The Schmidt CJS Jet Sweeper in Turkey.
Turkey, a country situated between East and West that could hardly be any more diverse, fascinating and contradictory and turns out to be a true master of different guises: modern metropolises sit alongside traditional mountain villages, white sandy beaches combine with rugged mountain landscapes, scorching hot summers in the south contrast with icy cold winters in the east. And it is in these very regions with an abundance of snow that Schmidt’s compact jet sweepers will be deployed from autumn 2017.

Around (Half) the World in 21 Days - Schmidt TJS-C 630 Jet Sweeper lands in North America
Boasting a total weight of about 26 tonnes and a length of 16 metres, the TJS-C 630 jet sweeper is not only one of the longest but also one of the heaviest machines by Schmidt. Sending such a vehicle on a journey involves not only organising the transport from A to B, but also observing customs regulations, filing applications with authorities and meeting tight schedules. No transport is like the other, in particular when it comes to overseas transport – as was the case recently in April on the occasion of the “International Aviation Snow Symposium” in Buffalo in the State of New York.

Instead of buying new, Manchester Airport decided to refurbish up to 12 year old Schmidt CJS Compact Jet Sweepers, resulting in an extension of their working life by up to another 10 years. Manchester Airport, the third largest in the UK and the largest outside London, operates a winter maintenance or snow fleet of up to 25 different units, including nine Schmidt CJS, a snow cutter/blower and two Schmidt ASP Airport Sprayers.
BER relies on innovation
Berlin Airport was the first major airport to test whether and how our autonomous technology can be integrated into their specific operational concept. During the winter months, vehicles, equipment and software have been tested intensively and with great commitment. Conclusion: The future also works in Berlin!
Making custom design the standard
Our close, longstanding partnerships with airports all over the world have taught us a great deal, not least that the needs of every airport are different. Of all the production lines within the group, airport equipment requires a particularly wide variety of custom designs. We take a look behind the scenes.

Dublin Airport expands winter maintenance fleet with further Schmidt equipment
Dublin Airport has further expanded its winter maintenance fleet to be operationally ready to tackle the severest winter conditions as it expands airport operations with the forthcoming addition of its new North Runway.
Completely rubber free runways using ultra-high-pressure water technology
Dubai Airport handles 250,000 take-offs and landings every year. This corresponds to about 700 aircraft movements per day. This results in several layers of rubber and soot deposits on the wide runways every day, which can significantly impair the safety of flight operations due to the loss of friction. For example, when the runway is wet, aquaplaning occurs and aircraft could slide off the runway. Effective, large-scale and reliable cleaning is therefore essential for smooth flight operations.
eSwingo 200+ improves Performance also at Airports
Düsseldorf Airport tested the fully electric eSwingo 200⁺ for around a week. Thanks to the positive results, there are now plans to purchase a machine. The airport wrote in its press release: «Electric Mobility is an important element in Düsseldorf Airport’s sustainability strategy.» But a compact sweeper at the airport? We asked the airport managers to explain what role the machine can play in an environment that is generally dominated by large sweepers.

Military Airports in France – More efficient. More innovative. More Sustainable.
A new era of winter maintenance is beginning for the French Air Force. At French military airports, it was common practice for a long time for the superseded engines from the old Mirage to be used for snow-clearance purposes. These engines from the fighter aircraft were fitted onto a special truck and this was the method used to blow the snow off the runways with a huge blast of hot air. Following an in-depth review of the old fleet, the representatives from the French Air Force decided that the winter maintenance equipment urgently needed to be upgraded to the latest technology.

London Luton completes the puzzle
London Luton Airport (LLA) has added a self-propelled snow-cutter blower and a highly versatile implement carrier to its fleet. Being well prepared and ready for every eventuality, was the missing piece to the puzzle which is now completed to ensure effective and efficient summer and winter maintenance on the airport. Here’s more about the rationale.
MB meets the need for speed with innovative engineering
If the layout of an airport makes simple and unproductive moving of the equipment take up far too much valuable time, what can you do? For the international airport in Denver, Colorado, MB's engineering team developed a solution specifically tailored to the airport to overcome the challenge without having to completely reinvent the wheel.
Street King 660 helps win extra business
Independent family-owned Shorts Group has been able to win extra business after adding two truck-mounted Schmidt Street King 660 sweepers to its hire fleet. Praise from operators, its efficiency driven configuration to help keeping costs down, tailormade accessories and training provided were among the main factors influencing the buying decision.
Canadian Airports battle snowstorms with dynamic snow removal equipment to get flights on and off the ground safely and on time
Two of the largest international airports in Canada – Calgary and Montreal – rely on MB and Schmidt snow clearing equipment. Before putting their trust in these machines, operations directors at both airports thoroughly evaluated their needs and performed in-depth testing to determine if our multi-tasking snow removal equipment could tackle their challenging winter weather events. We caught up with the operators to understand whether the units proved themselves in practice and what they would like to see in the future.
MB5C: Rising to market demand!
In just 18 months, MB designed, engineered and began manufacturing the MB5C – a MB5 with a Cradling broom and electronic articulation for easy operation. Denver Airport, Milwaukee County International Airport and multiple other airports have submitted their orders. It may seem like it’s only for larger airports, however, smaller airports can benefit by one operator easily performing three jobs with the MB5C’s plow, broom and blowers.
Cologne Bonn Airport shows how the future works
Cologne Bonn Airport is one of the ten most important commercial airports in Germany, both in terms of passengers and cargo. It provides work for many of the approximately 16 million people living in the vicinity of one of Europe's largest import and export regions. Environmental protection and sustainability are important to Cologne Bonn Airport which aims to be completely climate-neutral by 2050. And our Schmidt TJS 500 simulator makes a contribution to achieve the goal.
When machines deliver impressive performance and you still feel very small
Ivan Bédon is 53 years old, a trained mechanic and Field Service Manager at Aebi Schmidt Ibérica. He is responsible for service and maintenance of our customers’ machines and equipment. Recently, he was called to La Palma airport on the Canary Island of the same name, where the Cumbre Vieja volcano has been spewing smoke, ash and lava into the air at regular intervals for over 50 days now. Fortunately, the volcano has not yet claimed any lives, but the destruction and suffering of the islanders is severe. Even though field service managers like Ivan are experienced in dealing with special situations, it is unusual to be called to such an area.
Autonomous Operations at the Airport: The Future Has Already Arrived Today
Autonomous operations at the airport not only save money. While autonomous systems increase efficiency, safety, occupational health and flexibility, they also lead to a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions. Our solution is not off-the-shelf, it can be tailored to the specific conditions at the individual airport. And because it allows to integrate not only our own vehicles and machines but also those of other brands, the investment risk is low. But the best thing is that the systems have been intensively tested and are already available today.
Aebi Schmidt Canada Sales Take-Off with Two Large Airport Awards
Aebi Schmidt Canada is making a strong entrance to the market with the award of two key Canadian airport contracts after successful proposals in a highly competitive bid process. Each award has the potential for additional unit sales after the initial purchase.
Airports employ new technology to battle extreme Meteorology
Scientists have long predicted that climate change would increase the prevalence of extreme weather – today those forecasts are coming true. From heatwaves and blizzards to flooding and severe turbulence, extreme weather conditions are becoming more and more commonplace around the world. This trend not only spells bad news for global residents in general, but is having a hugely negative impact on airports and airlines.
Street King 660 impresses in Asisa
MODULAR CONCEPT AND HIGH QUALITY WIN OVER CLIENTS IN INDONESIA The Street King 660 shows what a successful collaboration between German and Asian engineers looks like. Fitted to a Mercedes Axor truck, four vehicles have been in use since mid-2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The highlight: the modular concept and self-supporting frame offer a high degree of flexibility and nearly unlimited combinations with carrier vehicles from a wide range of brands. Most of the sweeper was assembled at the St. Blasien factory; further assembly and the final installation took place locally. Together with a local automotive engineer and Aebi Schmidt service specialists, PT Kawan Lama Sejahtera, Aebi Schmidt’s sales partner in Indonesia, built an operational vehicle adapted to meet the requirements of our Asian clients within a very short time frame.
Ready for Takeoff
It’s all systems go as US airports prepare for the coming winter. Our colleagues in the US took part in two key events on the topic in June 2018.

Reduce to the Max – First CO2 Neutral Towed Jet Sweepers for Swedish Airports
Air traffic accounts for approximately 2% of global fossil carbon dioxide emissions. Together with emissions of nitrogen oxides, steam and effects of condensation trails, it is estimated that aviation is responsible for about 3.5% of humankind’s total impact on climate change. It’s not only planes flying from one destination to another but the infrastructure that goes with it, the ground handling, and the maintenance of the runways and taxiways of the airport such as snow removal. To make your airport operations smart and also green, ASH Group is looking for new technologies to reduce costs as well as emissions. “Reduce to the max” is the claim for the first CO2 neutral TJS-C (Towed Jet Sweeper – Compact) which was developed 2010 by ASH Group. Since October 2014, 29 of them are now in use at different airports in Sweden.
