Two months after we handed over the first eSwingo 200+ to the Swiss city of Thun, we wanted to know how the machine had worked out in practice. We were allowed to accompany Highway Maintenance Manager Andreas Trösch for the day as he went about his work with the eSwingo 200+. At the time, he confirmed to us that the machine is much quieter, both in the cab and when in use in the city centre and in recreation areas. If there were any doubts about this, it can even be measured. But what’s also interesting is what’s not immediately measurable. Quote from the video: ‘I feel a bit less stressed. Particularly in the evening, I’m more relaxed than when I’ve driven the diesel machine all day.’
More than just quiet
The noise level of an eSwingo is around 91 dBA, whereas a traditional diesel Swingo with reduced noise emissions would be around 99 dBA. A reduction of 3 dBA in acoustic pressure means the danger to people’s hearing is halved. A reduction of 10 dBA in acoustic power means half the volume. The noise from an eSwingo is therefore almost 50% lower than that of the diesel model.
But it’s not just noise that’s important for a pleasant working environment – overall ergonomics are also a major factor. Ergonomics start with the design of the cab and the operating concept. The easier it is to reach the controls and the more intuitive it is to control the machine and attachments, the less stressed operators will be. Less stress means increased safety and, ultimately, better occupational health. But an ergonomically designed workspace means much more than that. For example, it’s also about the individual elements being designed in a way that’s gentle on the driver’s back. That starts with getting into the cab, moves on to the driver’s seat and ends with the filling spout, and other frequently used components of the machine, being positioned at the right height.
Certified by independent experts: the AGR seal of approval for back-friendly products
The AGR was founded in 1995 with the aim of bringing together and providing information on back pain from different specialist areas, explaining expert medical knowledge on the subject, and, above all, helping those affected. The association works closely with expert medical organisations and supports the prevention, or at least the alleviation, of back pain when using everyday products by checking them and awarding them a seal of approval.
