76 tons of steel, 2,200 hp and up to 10,000 tons of snow per hour - this power pack, the Schmidt Beilhack HB1100S, was put into operation by the client, ÖBB, in April after a construction period of around 9 months.

The heavy rail vehicle made its maiden voyage on a test track in Hochfilzen, Austria, where it was put through its paces. In the machine, which is used to clear snow-covered railway tracks, two 793 kW (approx. 1,100 hp) MAN twelve-cylinders are used. One unit drives the vehicle, the other is used to operate the slingshot. With a clearing width of up to six meters, the snow thrower creates up to 10,000 tons of snow per hour with a throwing distance of 40 meters.

“The HB1100S is a very special snow blower in many ways,” says Stefan Kaiser, Project Manager Rail R&D Snow Clearing at the Aebi Schmidt Group. "A tight schedule, an individual construction such as a ring that can be rotated by 180 °, which enables turning on the spot, or a driving speed of up to 100 km / h are just a few examples. Realizing such a special project in such a short time is only possible with an experienced and motivated team, from purchasing to development to assembly. "

After the successful completion of all tests, the snow blower will officially be put into operation in summer 2019 and will be on the Austrian route network from the 2019/2020 winter season.
