In Action for clean roads

Cold, wet and rainy weather prevailed last week when a lorry drove into the Laufenburg depot. It was carrying the new Schmidt Cleango for the building department. The men from the building department posed for a group photo together with the bearer of the pre-Christmas gift. Then the vehicle was driven inside the depot, where chauffeur and sales consultant Guido Anderhub immediately began to train the four members of the public works department, who in future will be responsible for clean roads in the municipality of Laufenburg with the help of the new compact machine.

100 kilometres of roads need to be cleaned

"The procurement was not easy," says Salvatore Giglio, head of the public works department. On the one hand, the vehicle had to be able to be used in the narrow streets of the old town, and on the other hand, it had to meet the needs of the large road network in the Sulz district. A total of about 100 kilometres of roads in the municipality must be cleaned periodically. So far, this work has been carried out by an external company and the municipality of Frick. "Studies have shown that in the long run it is cheaper to purchase and operate a vehicle of our own," Giglio explained. Since the vehicle only travels at a maximum speed of 45 km/h, it can be operated with a blue number, which has the advantage that its drivers do not have to have a lorry permit. In addition, no heavy vehicle fee is due.

The aim of the building authority is to have all roads in the municipality cleaned at least once a month. The vehicle is also used for cleaning after major events such as Fasnacht or Hela. Since there is still free capacity at the moment, the building authority is interested in taking on sweeping work for other municipalities as well.

We wish the team from Werkhof Laufenburg a safe journey and lots of fun with the new sweeper.
