The winter services at Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports are prepared for the cold season. They ensure safe use of the runways, the aprons and the outside areas of the airport in snow and ice. The areas to be cleared together are as large as more than 500 football pitches. The winter services team at Leipzig/Halle consists of almost 300 internal and external staff. The area of operation at Leipzig/Halle thus covers around 3.5 million square metres at and around the airport. This corresponds to an area of around 489 football pitches. The area to be cleared in Dresden is 543,100 square metres, which corresponds to 76 football pitches.
The fleet of vehicles includes several Schmidt TJS sweepers and Schmidt snow ploughs. In Lepizig, around 80 workers are on duty per shift. In Dresden, 140 employees are trained for winter services.
