As part of its overall goal to replace carbon emitting vehicles with zero-emission alternatives, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) chose the Schmidt eSwingo 200⁺ for its eBroomer Pilot Program. Every year on 5 December, the town of Küssnacht am Rigi in Switzerland comes to a standstill. The Wasa 300⁺ is a firm favourite for cleaning large areas in industrial and port zones and for cleaning heavily soiled roads in small towns and communities. Dubai Airport handles 250,000 take-offs and landings every year. This corresponds to about 700 aircraft movements per day. This results in several layers of rubber and soot deposits on the wide runways every day, which can significantly impair the safety of flight operations due to the loss of friction. For example, when the runway is wet, aquaplaning occurs and aircraft could slide off the runway. Effective, large-scale and reliable cleaning is therefore essential for smooth flight operations.

Düsseldorf Airport tested the fully electric eSwingo 200⁺ for around a week. Thanks to the positive results, there are now plans to purchase a machine. The airport wrote in its press release: «Electric Mobility is an important element in Düsseldorf Airport’s sustainability strategy.» But a compact sweeper at the airport? We asked the airport managers to explain what role the machine can play in an environment that is generally dominated by large sweepers.

The venue for a large-scale exercise by the local fire brigade of Sankt Blasien and its districts was on July 15th at the plant at the Sankt Blasien site. The exercise is part of an ongoing training program for the fire brigade and is intended to simulate an emergency as realistically as possible. This is the only way for the fire protection team to check their own protection mechanisms and processes and optimize them if necessary. The local firefighters, who are alerted first in an emergency, were also able to get to know the infrastructure of the company premises on this occasion. This local knowledge creates a valuable head start in the event of a real alarm and helps to better assess the danger situation - an advantage for everyone involved.

Instead of buying new, Manchester Airport decided to refurbish up to 12 year old Schmidt CJS Compact Jet Sweepers, resulting in an extension of their working life by up to another 10 years. Manchester Airport, the third largest in the UK and the largest outside London, operates a winter maintenance or snow fleet of up to 25 different units, including nine Schmidt CJS, a snow cutter/blower and two Schmidt ASP Airport Sprayers.

At a recent practical day in St. Blasien, contractors and users were given exclusive insights into the technology and production of our Schmidt Supra 4002/5002 autonomous driving snow clearing machine. In addition to visiting the production line and driving and operating the machine on the test site, the snow clearing professionals also used the event to exchange ideas among themselves.

The winter maintenance team at Lincolnshire County Council has tackled one of the strangest winter seasons on record. Thanks, in the main, to its deployment of Schmidt Stratos III spreaders fitted with route guidance and automated salting system, it’s nonetheless been one with maximum efficiency, improved safety and lower salt usage.

From the top of the Col du Pillon pass, in the west of Switzerland at 1546 meters above sea level, it takes about 15 minutes by aerial tramway to reach the top station of the glacier ski area Glacier 3000. Four snow blowers and two trucks equipped with plows ensure that the unique glacier ski area is always accessible, even for early risers. On arrival, you are usually rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Eiger, Jungfrau and Matterhorn. To ensure that access to the aerial tramway is possible at all times, heavy equipment is also needed at this altitude - for example the new Supra 4002 from Jean-Luc Busset.

Carbon-free commitments of Councils across the UK come with an increased demand for electric sweepers. Some councils are using the momentum to assess different machines before making a long-term decision. Here’s an initial feedback from Islington Council’s drivers on the Schmidt eSwingo 200⁺ fully electric compact sweeper.

Have&Landskab in Slagelse (DK), Scandinavia’s largest garden and landscape fair, took place from August 25 to 17, 2021 and attracted around 10,220 visitors despite the pandemic-related circumstances.
