INCHEON AIRPORT IN SOUTH KOREA IS GEARING UP FOR THE 2018 OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES The “Land of the Morning Calm” is readying itself for the Games, which will be held from 9 to 25 February 2018. Given that passenger traffic spikes during events of this magnitude in particular, it’s an absolute must for any airport of good standing to have snow-free and ice-free runways and taxiways. To ensure absolute safety and punctuality at all times, IIAC (Incheon International Airport Corporation) is adding ten Schmidt TJS 630 jet sweepers to their winter service fleet.

The salt depots of the Oldesloer Autobahnmeisterei are full, the gritting vehicles are ready and the employees are on call.

We have talked with Udo Meyer, Operations Manager at AWISTA, to find out how IntelliOPS supports his day-to-day operations in winter maintenance. Keeping the road network free of snow and ice in winter is a challenging task every year. Professional and continuous use of data and digital applications makes planning and monitoring as well as documentation and reporting of the corresponding operations easier and safer. But how exactly?

Every country and region has its own challenges when it comes to fighting icy roads. However, the, safety of road users as well as drivers of winter maintenance vehicles is the first priority everywhere in the world. In many places today, the requirement to use vehicles and spreading materials in the most resource-saving way possible immediately follows in second place. Tapio Pahkakangas is an entrepreneur and prime contractor based in western Finland, which was voted by road users as having the best maintained roads in Finland in a survey conducted by the Finnish Road Administration during the 2020–2021 winter season. This recognition is significant both for this local company and Aebi Schmidt, as Pahkakangas’ company, Tapio Pahkakangas Oy, uses Arctic road maintenance equipment. Pahkakangas has been in the road maintenance business for thirty years and likes to share his knowledge and wisdom with others, as safety is something that affects us all. We interviewed the entrepreneur and found out what solutions other contractors can use to achieve similar results in their area.

Do you buy a pig in a poke? Probably not. Presenting machines and equipment live so that customers can experience and test them has been part of our daily business for decades. The ASH Group entered into a Purchase Agreement to acquire all of the interests of two North American snow and ice management equipment producers, Meyer Products LLC and Swenson Spreader LLC. Both companies are owned by the Louis Berkman Work Products Company LLC, Steubenville, Ohio and the transaction is expected to be closed by the end of September 2015. Both companies will provide the ASH Group with a very significant footprint in the important North American snow and ice management market.
