Madrid composts collected leaves

With its "Madrid 360" programme, the Spanish capital is pursuing the goal of becoming a sustainable city or so-called environmental zone by 2025. It wants to achieve this with a variety of measures. One of them is that the leaves collected now in autumn are brought to a composting plant to be used later as fertiliser for the more than 3.000 parks in the city.

A little later than elsewhere in Europe, but in Madrid the "leaf season" is now beginning. What is normally a familiar sight is completely new this year. This is because the city has developed an elaborate operational plan to not only strengthen the city cleaning plans, but also to make it more sustainable. Special teams and equipment are deployed at 90 to 150 hotspots, depending on the weather, to "in triad" - as the authorities call it - first take the leaves from the pavements to the street and from there to the sweepers and finally to the composting plant. Those who speak Spanish can find out more here in the report by the Telemadrid television station.

Within the scope of the city cleaning operations, the more emission-free, electrically or natural gas powered sweepers are used, and the more such sweepers that come from our company are used. Aebi Schmidt was able to convince the City of Madrid of the many advantages of the products and of our service in the context of a tender for its new fleet last summer - also triggered by the Madrid 360 strategy. We are now proud to supply a fleet of eSwingo 200+, Swingo 200+, Cleango 500, Cleango Gas, CityJet 6000, Straliq CityJet and Meyer machines perfectly tailored to the city's requirements. The first machines have already arrived in Madrid, as the Spanish television report also shows.

We thank the city of Madrid for their trust and are proud to be able to contribute to the realisation of "Madrid 360".
