How to build a powerhouse that clears 10,000 tonnes of snow per hour
In the assembly workshop in Tiefenhäusern, not far from our plant in St. Blasien, Germany, our specialists are working with high pressure and precision on two high-performance snow blowers for the Norwegian state railway company Bane NOR. Each of these machines weighs over 80 tonnes and generates over 2,000 horsepower. We recently had the honour of welcoming the Norwegian project team and accompanied them with our camera.

Beilhack Supplies Snow Blowers and Snow Ploughs for Croatian State Railway
With a rail network that is around 3000 km long, Croatia has a well-developed railway infrastructure which, among other places, also extends over the Dinaric Alps – one of the highest mountain ranges in Europe. To allow snow to be cleared from the rails more efficiently in the winter months, in 2016 the Croatian state railway operator HŽ PUTNIČKI PRIJEVOZ decided to add some powerful equipment to bolster its winter maintenance fleet. In collaboration with the Austrian track laying machine manufacturer Plasser & Theurer, Beilhack was commissioned to deliver two HB280 high-performance snow blowers, as well as two PB3 snow ploughs and BSP220 track clearing ploughs. In a short space of time, a team of engineers and fitters at Beilhack in St. Blasien managed to construct the attachments. They are each driven by an OBW100, a powerful track motor vehicle from Plasser & Theurer.

NEW SNOW BLOWER FROM SCHMIDT ENSURES CLEAR TRACKS ON THE MATTERHORN GOTTHARD RAILWAY The Matterhorn Gotthard Railway in Disentis in Switzerland was looking for a contemporary, powerful and above all safe snow-clearing vehicle to be deployed in tough winter conditions on the Oberalp Pass. After examining various options, a Bernina snow blower was acquired from the Rhaetian Railway at the end of 2014. However, this “old lady”, who was more than 50 years old, had to be thoroughly renovated and upgraded. This was a task for Schmidt’s railway experts at the St. Blasien site.
